Studio classes with sculptor Simone Elsing

I see my work as a way of calling attention to what is important in life – I want to touch the hearts of those who look at my sculptures. In both my larger projects for public spaces and my work for individual clients, my professional experience as sculptor, as well as my background in psychology, analytical art therapy and geomancy come together, infusing and deepening my creative process.

I love to share my enthusiasm and experience with others and offer different workshop courses at my studio near Potsdam-Babelsberg.

You need no prior experience in scuplting – just an open mind and a willingness to enter into a dialogue with the stone as your idiosyncratic and many-faceted counterpart. I will offer my advice and support while you discover your own creative powers and boldly begin to give shape to your ideas.

Stones and tools will be provided, and at the end of the workshop, you will have a beautiful, unique, handmade sculpture to take home with you.

 

 

 

 

 
At the beginning of the course, we will familiarize ourselves with the stones and tools.  Gradually, out of the individual character of each stone and your own imagination, ideas for sculptures will emerge, and we will learn the use of different chisels while working on their realization.

During lunch break, we can eat and rest under the apple tree or in the old kitchen. After having been immersed in your work for so long, you will also welcome the opportunity to talk within the group.

At the end of each day, we will take a moment to look at our works in progress, to share our experiences, talk about what went well and what challenges we might yet have to face. You will be tired but happy – and brimming with new ideas …

Working with stone, a wilful and resistant counterpart full of surprises and beauty, is not only about artistic expression and the use of different tools, but also a journey of self-discovery. We learn to be respectful and attentive towards others, to look carefully, to have the courage to invest ourselves fully in a creative process, and to meet resistance and surprises with curiosity and creativity.

The fee for the course includes the use of tools and as drinks (coffee, tea, water). Please bring comfortable clothes suitable for working outdoors, sturdy shoes and a contribution to our picnic at lunchtime..

Refunds are possible up to 10 days prior to the beginning of a course, after that you must supply a stand-in. Should a course have to be cancelled  due to lack of bookings, your deposit will be reimbursed in full. Please be aware that participation occurs at your own risk, and you are liable for any injuries or damage.
