Where to?

I worked on this sculpture for several years with some interruptions. At the beginning I wanted to express a feeling of security, but as time went by I began more and more to doubt this. Again and again I interrupted the work on this sculpture, worked on other pieces with different themes and came back to this one again. From the original clarity has become a search, the search for "where to?". The sculpture is of salmon-coloured Portuguese marble and shows a woman who is leaning into the marble. She is supported by it and at the same time nuzzles into it. She has only been partly worked out in the stone and her body is not clearly distinguished from the surrounding stone but remains woven into it. There emerges the impression of a movement which can go in both directions; to completely melt together with the stone or to separate from it and step out of it.
