St. Elisabeth

As an emblem of St. Elizabeth Hospital in Essen, a larger than life sculpture made of salmon-pink marble greets visitors in the main foyer.
I wanted to convey a sense of deep-felt humanity to all visitors, without words and regardless of faith: this is a place where you can be at home, where you will be embraced with all your troubles and fears. Even though the roses identify the sculpture as Elizabeth, her face is bare of personal features. I have translated her utter devotion into a flow of lines and shapes.
